Andrew West Griffin is a native of Wichita, Kansas and has lived in Oklahoma since 2005 when he moved to Lawton to work at The Lawton Constitution as a court and crime reporter.

Having graduated from John Brown University with a degree in journalism, Andrew has made a career out of writing, ultimately marrying Monica Smith in 2007 and launching the independent, Oklahoma-focused news website Red Dirt Report that same year.

Andrew has a passion for peace, social justice, civil rights and marriage equality. He passionately pursues the truth and lives by the words of courageous 19th century abolitionist and hero Elijah P. Lovejoy, who said, before he was killed by a pro-slavery mob in the 1830’s: (A)s long as American blood runs in these veins, I shall hold myself at liberty to speak, to write, to publish whatever I please on any subject–being amenable to the laws of my country for the same.”

In 2013 he received the Cimarron Alliance’s annual “Excellence in Media Award” and he, along with his staff, continue to promote stories highlighting issues facing the LGBT community.

Andrew and Monica live in Oklahoma City with their two sons and four cats.
